Just an hour’s drive from the vacation homes in Kissimmee and Davenport, you’ll find the enchanting Blue Spring State Park in Orange City. This hidden gem is best known as a winter refuge for West Indian Manatees, making it a unique destination for nature lovers.

Blue Spring boasts the largest spring on the St. Johns River and is a designated Manatee Refuge. During the winter months (mid-November through March), visitors are often treated to the sight of hundreds of manatees taking sanctuary in the spring’s warmer waters.

However, this park isn’t just about these gentle sea cows. When manatees aren’t present, the clear and cool spring run is a favorite spot for swimmers, snorkelers, and certified scuba divers.

The park offers much to explore beyond the spring, too. It features a well-maintained boardwalk that winds through a scenic floodplain forest, allowing visitors a close-up view of the local wildlife. Picnic areas, barbecue grills, and a children’s playground make it an ideal spot for family outings.

Visitor guidelines at Blue Spring State Park are geared towards preserving the natural habitat of the manatees and other wildlife. Pets are welcome in the park but are not allowed in the spring area.
